What is Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurveda medicine originated in India more than 400 years ago and it is one of the oldest holistic health systems.  Its aims are to bring harmony and wellbeing to the body and mind through health, diet, lifestyle, detoxification and herbal remedies, bringing a person’s body and mind back into a balance.

Consultations

Private consultations are offered specifically designed to suit each person’s needs.  Once an overall assessment has been completed you will receive a personalised Ayurvedic treatment plan focusing on nutrition, lifestyle and herbs, to cleanse, balance and restore your health and wellbeing.

Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation that lasts one hour, an in depth assessment is carried out focusing your health, medical and family history, diet and lifestyle (including sleep, exercise, and professional life).

During this session we will:

  • Review of your health history and any current medications
  • Discuss your main health concerns and symptoms
  • Carry out an Ayurvedic examination including a pulse and tongue diagnosis
  • Discuss your emotional, mental, and physical state
  • Review of your blood pressure and heart rate
  • Examine your current diet and lifestyle

Once the initial assessment is completed, we will discuss ways to balance and restore harmony through Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle practices.

Following the initial consultation

Patients will be given feedback on their current state of health, gain advice on any balances in their system and learn about their constitution or ‘mind-body type’. Patients will receive a detailed treatment plan of customised herbal formulas, dietary, lifestyle and exercise recommendations.  This will help to promote your overall wellbeing and help prevent health issues before they arise.

Follow – up appointments

About 2-6 weeks later a follow-up appointment usually takes place. My aim is to continue to guide and support you and your long-term health goals. In a follow-up consultation, we will discuss whether the suggestions given in the initial consultation or previous follow-up consultations have been helpful in balancing your state of health and we adjust the suggestions accordingly.

Herbal Treatment For the Head (Tibetan Shirodhara)

Tibetan Shirodhara combines four Tibetan massage techniques (including Shirodhara) in a seamless rhythm.  The four-part treatment sequence, includes:

  1. Psychological Stress Sequence:

Involves the gentle anointing of twelve marmas (vital energy points) with essential oils to calm the mind and help relax

  1. Abdominal Massage:

Warm herbal oil is poured into the navel and a gentle and rhythmic massage is performed that nurtures the body and helps to calm the mind.

  1. Tibetan Eye Treatment:

Contrary to what the name indicates, the primary place of action in this treatment is the feet – yet surprisingly, the eyes feel amazingly bright, clear, and well hydrated afterward.

  1. Shirodhara:

A continuous fine stream of warm oil is poured over the forehead for 10-20 minutes. The touch of the oil allows the body to sink into a deep relaxation.  This treatment has beneficial effects relieving  stress &  anxiety.  It enhances sleep, nourishes & rejuvenates the body & relaxes & calms the mind.
